Driver Education Classroom and Behind-The-Wheel Lessons

During the 2009-2010 school year and Summer 2010, Richfield Community Education will be offering both classroom and behind-the-wheel drivers education for students 15 years and older.

These courses consist of the following:  A thirty-hour classroom course including an extensive study of the Minnesota Drivers Manual, right of way rules, emergency situations, adverse driving, drinking and driving problems, and proper attitudes and responsibilities about driving.  After these lessons are completed, the student will be issued a blue card. Students will take this card, along with the students personal ID, social security number, corrective lenses if needed, and fee to take the permit test at a Minnesota Drivers and Vehicle Services location.

Once the student has received their permit they should then schedule the 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel

with the instructor. If you are in need of extra BTW training, please contact the Community Education office at 612-243-3000. Once the student has completed BTW, they will receive a white card. You must have held your permit for 6 months and have 30 hours of practice driving, with 10 hours being at night, without a BTW instructor before you take the road test. Once you schedule the road test with the Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services, bring the white card, proof of insurance, road test fee, permit, social security number and corrective lenses if needed. (You must be 16 years old.)

Registration:  You may come in person or mail the registration to our office at 7145 Harriet Ave. So. (Located  South of  the High School), or register on line: www.bloomingtonrichfieldcommunityeducation.com. We accept Visa, Discover or Mastercard.  Please note that payment will be processed immediately.  If you have additional questions, please call 612-243-3000.

Costs:   The total cost of classroom and behind-the-wheel is $340.00 payable at registration; by registering for both together your price includes a $25.00 discount!  If you wish to register separately, the cost will be $85.00 for classroom and $280 for Behind-the-Wheel.  No discount will apply if registering separately.  (No other discounts may be applied to these classes.)

Refunds:   Please read the following carefully.  Cancellations received within 5 or more business days prior to start of class will qualify for a refund minus $10.00 processing fee.  If $25.00 discount was applied at the time of registration and you cancel out of either classroom or Behind-the-Wheel, a $35.00 processing fee will be charged.  If cancellation is made less than 5 business days prior to start of class you will forfeit the $85.00 classroom portion of the registration fee.  After one year, no refund will be given for Behind-the-Wheel classes,  but you will still be able to schedule your lessons.

Please Note: Once a student has signed up for the behind-the-wheel lessons with an instructor, and the student fails to show up for a scheduled lesson, a $15.00 no-show fee will be charged, payable to Richfield Community Education.  The instructor will not schedule another lesson until the no show fee is paid.   

Class Location:  Richfield Senior High School in Room 102.
